NEEDS had participated in the Oman Energy and Water Exhibition and Conference 2019, on April 22 – 24, 2019 which was held in Oman Convention & Exhibition Center, in Muscat – Oman.
The OEW event annual conference offers a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues and solutions to the energy and water challenges and opportunities, and for improved collaboration among key sectors in both public and private to share information and to forge joint initiatives.
NEEDS Smart Grid Department Manager, Mr. Salman Abou Ali, was a speaker among the number of delegate companies with high expertise in Smart Grid and Smart Utilities, who have been invited to speak at the event. Mr. Abou Ali presented “The Smart Grid Customers: Navigating the Course for Successful Smart Grid Utilization”.

Mr. Abou Ali presented “The Smart Grid Customers: Navigating the Course for Successful Smart Grid Utilization”.
The presented paper illustrates the customer prospects and benefits from the smart grid at this stage where the region is oriented towards sustainable and green energy solutions where successful projects are being implemented at small, medium and large scale for the generation of clean energy including solar and wind energy, waste to energy, and usage of electric vehicles with all its operation requirements. These scattered projects can be connected to the grid only if a robust infrastructure is founded which make use of the developed technologies of smart meters and communication media towards the foundation of a smart grid. The customers’ prospects with the smart grid imposes the installation of smart meter for all types of customers having the desire in generating sustainable energy. This will pave the road for the customers to go smart by implementing the smart house concept. NEEDS has developed a smart house module named SMARTi which aims at achieving energy savings and hence reducing energy bills and Greenhouse Gases emission of a facility.

The exhibition was officially opened under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahad bin Mahmood Al Said the Assistant Secretary General for the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, who visited NEEDS Booth and listened to the demonstration on NEEDS participation in the development and promotion of Advanced Technologies in Smart Utilities and Smart Customers; the Digital Transformation of in Energy as well as in Education Sectors.
NEEDS Booth demonstrated the company history milestones, its achievements, the Digital Utility and Smart Grid Concepts, NEEDS Consulting and Engineering services, NEEDS Efficient and Smart Energy Program, and NEEDS E-Learning Electronic Platform.
Our team exposed to the visitors the company’s involvement in the Digital Transformation technologies, proficiency in the Digital Utility era, breakthrough in the Smart Grid, development of NEEDS SMARTi solutions for energy efficiency and NEEDS SOrCE E-Learning solutions.

NAMA Distribution Companies Workshop, Losses Reduction Initiatives, April 25, 2019
NEEDS was present in Oman in the “NAMA Discos Loss Reduction Initiatives” workshop upon accepting the invitation from our valuable customer Muscat Electricity Distribution Company, MEDC. The workshop was held in Rural Areas Electricity Company premises, Tanweer, on April 25, 2019.
During the workshop, the Discos presented their initiatives and achievements in reducing technical and non-technical losses on their networks.
NEEDS had the opportunity to present the “Distribution Losses Optimization through Energy Correlation” solution which responds to the companies’ concerns and obsessions. The concept behind the Energy Correlation solution is the data manipulation and analysis that empowers the ability to determine the loss percentage at each component of the network starting from the Primary Station downstream to the customer through the Distribution Substations. Moreover, the solution provides the facility of mapping the losses at each level of the network in area wise (per primary station area, per distribution substation area).
